HIKE – From Wilderswil Station to Oberhasli and Saxeten

You can reach Wilderswil by train or bus from Interlaken West (or Ost). The train goes every half an hour and stops right where this hike starts. There are also various busses going to the station of Wilderswil.

Embarking on this picturesque trail, you’ll first meander through a charming Swiss village, characterized by its quintessential wooden houses. The path then ascends through lush meadows, where you’ll encounter herds of sheep and cows, offering a quintessential Swiss pastoral experience. As you continue, the trail leads you into serene woodlands, with the ascent becoming steeper and more invigorating (although the meadows are pretty steep already).

Upon climbing approximately 400 meters, you’ll be rewarded with your first breathtaking viewpoint overlooking Interlaken. The trail then takes you back into the woods, with a more gradual incline that allows for an engaging hike. After conquering around 800 meters of elevation, you’ll reach a paved road that winds around the mountainside, providing stunning panoramic views of both Interlaken and the valley of Lauterbrunnen.

The descent is equally captivating, as the path weaves through diverse landscapes of meadows and woodland until you arrive at Saxeten. The journey down includes a scenic route along a waterfall. I was especially surprised by the variety of paths and viewpoints on this route. Totally worthwhile!
