Lake Brienz
Lake Brienz is unbelievable blue. It looks like you have entered Thailand or some tropical destination that magically landed in Switzerland with all the mountains and Alps surrounding it. This asks for a nice hike and a bit of relaxing, discovering waterfalls, a beautiful forest walk and a dip in the lake while you’re there.
Boat ride to Giessbach
09:26 – Boat to Giessbach.
You don’t want to miss this boat, cause it only goes once every two hours. But just hop on the boat that takes you to Giessbach.
When you arrive at Giessbach, you have two choices, you can either walk up or take the Giesbach Bahn up that takes you right to the Giesbach hotel. But before we go to the hotel, you might want to start with a small warm-up hike around the waterfall. You can hike up and walk underneath the waterfall!
Coffee at Hotel Giessbach
11:00 – Now let’s enjoy a coffee on the beautiful terrace of Hotel Giessbach and don’t forget to peak inside, because the hotel itself is courageous! So relax and enjoy the view while sipping your coffee.
Hike to Iseltwald or Bönigen
11:30 – You have two choices here: for those who like a longer hike, I recommend you to walk all the way to Bönigen. The first part, to Iselwald, is relatively easy, no steep slopes so you can walk this stretch without too much effort.
This path winds along the water’s edge, under steep rocks, between narrow passages, caves and the forest. The path is stunning.
The hike from Iselwald to Bönigen is a bit more challenging! Going up 290 metres, but this climb is rewarded with a view on Bönigen, Interlaken and you can even see Lake Thun. This path is also clearly less popular, and you find yourself alone in the woods.

Ice cream time in Bönigen
15:00 – Whether you took the boat or bus back to Bönigen or made the complete hike. There is a cute, little caravan food truck that sells good coffee and ice cream and if you’re there in summer, this is actually what you need!
More convenient: the stall is right on the way to the beach.
Beachday at Lake Brienz
15:30 – What better way to spent a summer day near and in the water. Time to dive in the cold, but crystal clear water of Lake Brienz.
You again have two choices here: you can lay on the small beach and jump into lake Brienz for a cooling dip or you can walk a bit further and swim some actual latches at the swimming pool of Bönigen.
A summer day perfectly spend 🙂
